  1. But don't bother calling either one if there's construction going on at 3 am, because they won't do anything about it. Seriously, there is construction going on right now on Furman that woke me up. It's 3:10 am and there are floodlights, dumptrucks, cranes, bulldozers, horns honking, etc. I really am in disbelief about this. Called Pct. 7 dispatcher twice AND Houston PD. It's been over an hour since I called and...nothing. Noise ordinance is a myth unless you're having a party, I guess.

  2. Update: early morning construction is on again. Lights are blazing in through my bedroom window and some giant contraption is grinding and clanking and churning away at something while a group of probably 20 guys stands around watching it. Occasionally, this noise is punctuated by the *beep* *beep* *beep* of some truck or machinery driving in reverse. It's 2:11 am.

For anybody who cares to know for the future: noise ordinance laws do not apply to construction in our area. Construction crews (who normally need to have a permit to operate at night) can do as they please in the suburbs this far removed from the highway and Houston proper. This is what Houston PD, our precinct dispatcher, and the construction company have all told us. So, count yourself lucky if you're not on the Furman side of of Brunswick Meadows where you have to put up with this nonsense. This complete lack of protection of the BASIC human right to sleep is appalling - I'm truly shocked that this is legal. Shame on Houston and shame on our precinct for allowing this. We'll be moving the first chance we get to some place that values its citizens over industry. Done.
